|My colleague Wojciech Pacuła’s magazine, highfidelity.pl, and hifistatement.net have traditionally recognised one component at each of the trade fairs in Munich and Warsaw that had impressed us over the previous six months. As High End is taking place in Vienna this year, we will henceforth be referring to the Vienna and Warsaw Edition of the Awards.
Apart from the name change, there are no surprises this time. My colleague indulged his fondness for British loudspeakers in the BBC tradition, chose the Harbeth – with the catchy name Super HL5plus XD2 – as his winner, and explained his choice as follows: “The fact is that every audio brand, every manufacturer, offers speakers that offer the best balance between price and quality. These are usually models that are in some way linked to the company’s early days or to events or technologies that are significant to them. In the case of Harbeth, these are the SHL5plus XD2 speakers. It doesn’t take much effort to hear the connection between them and the flagship M40.1 model to which they were compared. Obviously, there are differences as well, but more on that later; for now, let’s focus on the similarities. And these similarities are, above all, the powerful scale of the sound and how amazingly natural it is. Products based on the “BBC School” can do something right off the bat that even the most technologically and technically advanced products from the competition can achieve only with effort - and even then, not all of them. I am referring to the ability to produce a sound as a single, wonderfully functioning whole.”
For me, technical innovation was once again the deciding factor – and there’s simply no getting around the Wilson Benesch Prime Meridian System. My reasoning: “The longer I studied the system's components and the technical specifications in the white papers, and the more often I spoke with Wilson Benesch's technical director Craig Milnes, the stronger my impression became that probably no other turntable has challenged and re-evaluated so many supposed certainties as the Prime Meridan system. … It should be clear that Wilson Benesch has thoroughly examined all aspects of vinyl playback and developed a wealth of innovative solutions. The Wilson Benesch system is unlike any turntable that has previously visited my listening room. … Thanks to applied engineering and materials science, the Wilson Benesch Prime Meridian system extracts more information from even old LPs than ever before. More importantly, however, it also offers an extremely intense emotional connection to the music: a dream for audiophiles and music lovers!”
So, the first awards in High Fidelity this year go to the Harbeth Super HL5plus XD2 and the Wilson Benesch Prime Meridian system. Congratulations to the winners!

High End ohne Limit – ein Besuch bei Göbel High End
Vor einem Jahr erlebte ich die Göbel Divin Comtesse bei Dirk Sommer – das kleinste Modell der Divin-Serie. Schon sie überzeugte mich klanglich. Ein Besuch bei „Audio Freak“ Markus Wierl
Vor kurzem erwähnte ich Dirk Sommer gegenüber, dass ich nach wie vor Interesse an einem Bass-Array-Test in meinem Hörraum samt Bericht hätte.
