The 28th edition of the Warsaw Audio and Video Show is just around the corner, and it's time to announce the winners of the Statement in High Fidelity Awards. Highfidelity.pl chose one of the most famous names in the industry, Michael Bladelius, and hifistatement.net the young company Storgaard & Vestskov from Denmark.
Our colleague Wojciech Pacuła tested the Bladelius Oden Class-A II integrated amplifier in his magazine. As the name suggests, it is a Class-A circuit, which provides 300 watts at four ohms at a price of over €20,000. He summed up his verdict in one expression: “super natural sound. I would add the words “unbelievable” and perhaps “wonderful,” and if I got carried away, even “miraculous.” This is an amplifier that allows you to listen to music comfortably without feeling that you are missing out on anything. The amount of detail, nuances, half- and even quarter-shades of color is incredible with it. And all this is served up with finesse and ease.
It is remarkable to see how technologies blamed for “bad” sound, such as digital technology, and in this case transistor technology, have matured and bear fruit in the form of amplifiers such as the Oden II. That is why Bladelius Oden II is such an outstanding device – a device I could live with and listen not only to Nat King Cole, not only to classics or the wonderful Chet Baker from the Chet Baker Quartet, but also to Blur, Oasis or Slayer.”
Almost two years ago, Hifistatement author Carsten Bussler was so impressed by Storgaard & Vestskov's loudspeakers at one of their first appearances at a regional trade fair in Hamburg that he was determined to hear them in his own home, even though high-efficiency transducers are usually among his favourites. The Danes from the island of Bornholm now operate under the somewhat complicated name SV-Audio by Storgaard & Vestskov and were using the time to further optimise their two-way Frida model – with such success that our colleague, who is by no means prone to euphoria, summed up his experience with it as follows:
„The Frida from SV-Audio by Storgaard & Vestskov is a compact, perfectrly crafted loudspeaker, suited for small to medium-sized listening rooms, and one that demands an excellent amplifier partner. And at 15,750 Euro Frida is expensive. In return, however, she devotes herself entirely to the music and becomes acoustically almost invisible. In her class, she may even be without competition, because she can do something seemingly quite simple that so many other competitors cannot: play music!”
This year's second Statements in High Fidelity awards go to the Bladelius Oden Class-A II and SV-Audio by Storgaard & Vestskov Frida. Congratulations to the winners!
